using online mapping tools provided
by
Progeos,
has brought
it's collection of online historical maps, aerial
photographs (including the 1934 Connecticut aerial photography),
and mapping data (roads, town boundaries, water bodies, etc.)
into an easy to use online mapping system. Users will be
able to view a wide variety of map data, search for
specific locations in Connecticut, and print user created maps.
No GIS experience necessary!
This site will be changing over the next
few weeks as we improve tools and the viewers capabilities.
Check back often for improvements and new data!
After serving Homer Babbidge for over
25 years Patrick McGlamery will be retiring from the
University of Connecticut on August 1st, 2008. For
over 20 years Pat was the Map Librarian at the University of
Connecticut. During his time here he added thousands
of maps to map library's collection, founded one of the
nation's first online GIS repositories with MAGIC, started
countless geospatial data development projects, and helped
perfect the art of geospatial metadata creation.
We thank Pat for his countless years
of service, because without him MAGIC would not exist and
our future would not be as bright. Best wishes to Pat
and good luck in your future projects.
Your one stop for Connecticut aerial photography!
MAGIC's collection includes over 35,000 digital images of
Connecticut from 1951 to 1995. Center point index maps, GIS
indexes, and links to metadata and digital images available.
About MAGIC
Welcome to the Map and Geographic Information Center
(MAGIC) at the University of Connecticut.
As you may have noticed we have changed the appearance of
our website. Over the next few months MAGIC will bring
its users new datasets from georeferenced geology maps,
historical railroad maps, new Connecticut vector data, and a
new online mapping service where patrons can view our data,
query information, and print high quality maps.
If you have
bookmarks for MAGIC websites, don't worry, none of the links
have, or will change. If you prefer our former
homepage click
here.
MAGIC, the
University of Connecticut's Map Library, collects maps,
atlases, gazetteers, aerial photographs, and digital
geospatial data, as well as resources on the history and
current state of cartography.
Even though
MAGIC provides spatial data for use in many GIS programs,
the staff do not provide cartographic ("map-making")
services. However, the staff are able to provide basic help
with GIS questions, concerning the data on the MAGIC Web
site.
MAGIC has been transforming the world of paper maps for over
25 years. Please take a few moments to browse our
current and new projects and keep
checking our evolving website for new and exciting updates. For more information about MAGIC, please visit
