Description:
Abstract:
This datalayer is a simple representation of the main stem rivers for the Major, Regional and Subregional drainage basins in Connecticut. A main stem river is the major river that usually runs down the middle of these basins. The datalayer includes two Shapefiles with line and polygon features. The line Shapefile outlines the rivers in the polygon Shapefile and delineates other main stem rivers that are only represented as single lines. The polygon Shapefile includes polygons for the larger main stem rivers like the Connecticut River and the southern portion of the Housatonic River. This datalayer does not accurately define the extents of these rivers because it was digitized at 1:250,000 scale.
Purpose:
Data are intended for reference purposes only. Only use this datalayer with other 1:250,000 scale datalayers such as Major Roads, Town Index, or Subregional Basins and not with the more spatially accurate 1:24,000 scale datalayers. Features are represented as polygon features.
