Abstract:
This is a 1:50,000-scale datalayer that includes point locations digitized from Leachate and Wastewater Discharge Source maps at 1:50,000 scale compiled by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and point locations digitized on-screen from DEP sources. It is comprised of two Shapefiles with point and line features. Both Shapefiles should be used together. Point features represent waste source locations and line features represent surface water discharges released at some distance away from the source. This datalayer is an abridged version of information on file in the Bureau of Water Management at DEP. This information may not be complete nor current. The datalayer locates surface and groundwater discharges that (1) have received a waste water discharge permit from the state or (2) are historic and now defunct waste sites or (3) are locations of accidental spills, leaks, or discharges of a variety of liquid or solid wastes. Either the Av_legend or Lwname field can be used to generally describe the type of waste at the site. The maps that serve as the source of information for this datalayer are prepared by major river basin. The compilation dates are: Connecticut- 12/91, Southcentral Coast- 12/92, Thames, Southeast Coast, and Pawcatuck- 6/88, Housatonic and Hudson- 6/84 (revised 1997), Southwest Coast- 3/84 (revised 1997). In 1997, the Leachate and Waste Water Discharge point locations, direction-of-discharge lines, and attribute infomation was updated for the Housatonic River and Southwest Coastal Basins. The State_id, a cross-reference field to the hazardous waste inventory, was also included.
