What is ArcExplorer?

ArcExplorer software is a lightweight GIS data explorer developed by ESRI. It is designed to dramatically change the way geographic data can be viewed and shared throughout organizations and the world. ArcExplorer can work on its own with local data sets or as a client to Internet data and map servers. ArcExplorer is built using MapObjects, ESRI's powerful collection of GIS and mapping components for application developers.

Why use ArcExplorer?

As a stand-alone application, ArcExplorer is a complete data explorer, allowing users to display and query a wide variety of standard data sources. With ArcExplorer you can

  • Use ESRI shapefiles, ArcInfo coverages, and SDE layers.
  • Display a wide variety of image formats.
  • Pan and zoom through multiple map layers.
  • Fully integrate with MapObjects IMS 2.
  • Download vector and image data.
  • Perform address matching by street address or intersection.
  • Perform intelligent, automated labeling.
  • Display data using classifications, symbols, and labeling.
  • Identify and query geographic and attribute data and much more.

ArcExplorer also features legends, overview maps, multiple views, saving and retrieving views, and map printing.

In addition to being a powerful data explorer, ArcExplorer can also be used as a Web mapping client. With ArcExplorer you can browse and query data on your corporate Intranet or the World Wide Web. Most importantly, ArcExplorer allows you to choose and download data via the Internet in industry-standard shapefile format.

ArcExplorer is the ultimate data exploration tool, providing powerful display and query tools as well as data serving and retrieval capabilities via the Internet.

Where can I find ArcExplorer?

You can download a free copy of ArcExplorer. Be sure to get the Manual in PDF format and the Import Utility. You will need the Import Utility to bring the E00 (ESRI Exchange format) files into ArcExplorer.
