The following will describe the different toolavailable from our online mapping service

Tool Description

 

 

Zoom In/Zoom Out - Zooms into or out of the current view.  The center of the view remains the same, and the zoom factor is changed by a factor of two.

 

 

Zoom to Selected Area - With your cursor at an area of interest, click and hold.  Drag the mouse across the map as a red zoom box highlights the area to be zoomed in on.  The map will zoom in on the center of the highlighted box.

 

 

Pan Map - With your cursor at a useful reference point, click and hold.  The current view becomes attached to the cursor and remains attached while you move the cursor around, as long as you keep the mouse button held down.

 

 

Zoom Extent - This tool zooms in or out to display the full extent of all graphics on all maps in the viewer.

 

 

Measure Distance - This tool measures the distance between any two user selected positions, or alternatively the cumulative distance from one user selected position, through a series of subsequent user selected positions, to the last user selected position chosen.  The total length is given in the window below the map.  To clear any measurements hit the escape key.

 

 

Measure Area - This tool measures the area between any three or more user selected positions.  The total area is given in the window below the map.  To clear any measurements hit the escape key.

 

 

Scale - Displays the current scale of the map.  By clicking the down arrow the scale of the map can be changed and the map will zoom in or out.

 

   

 

Identify - Click on a feature on the map and a window will open describing the attributes of the feature.  To select a feature make sure the only layer turned on is the layer you wish to query.

 

  

 

Key Hole  - This tool will allow for a map over another map to be viewed through making it transparent.  The initial map (the one you see when you load a map) can be viewed behind it the overlayed map. 

 

 

 

Refresh - This tool will refresh the map view adding any new maps that have been selected

 

 

Print - By clicking the print tool a PDF map set in the defined print template will open in a new window

 

 

Map Tab - In this window one can add new layers and refresh the view

 

 

Search Tab - Users can enter a Connecticut place name, like a town or physical feature, click search, and then use the scale tool to zoom to feature.

 

 

Print Tab - Maps can be created with either a landscape or portrait format.  To ensure the PDF map opens make sure pop-ups are allowed from econmap.com
